Viewfield wetland, opposite the Community Gardens, is part of the flood defences for the village of Tarland. It helps hold back water in heavy rainfalls.
The wetland and bird hide on the way to Reekitlane, is part of the waste water treatment for the village and it provides an important wetland for the many over-wintering geese and other waders. Just beyond this wetland, is a new area which can flood during heavy rain events or can be deliberately flooded in the winter.
The wetlands are managed by the Tarland Development Group and the Wetlands Project Group.
